Iowa City, Iowa – On a rainy night, the Iowa Hawkeyes scored more than 40 points for the third consecutive home game, with running back Kaleb Johnson tying the school’s single-season touchdown record. Despite this achievement, there was little fanfare about his fourth three-touchdown performance of the season during a 42-10 victory over Wisconsin. Johnson now has 20 touchdowns in nine games, showcasing his best season yet.

A significant improvement can be attributed to the offensive line, which has transformed from injury-riddled to formidable. Johnson, consistently realizing his potential, has become integral to Iowa’s offensive turnaround.

Often overlooked as playoff hopes fade, star players like Johnson remain crucial. Leading in rushing yards, touchdowns, and explosive plays, his contributions have sparked Heisman discussions. Yet, Johnson remains modest, focusing more on team success. His 20 touchdowns match Shonn Greene’s 2008 record, and with 1,279 rushing yards and an average of 7.5 yards per carry, he surpasses many of his peers in power conferences.

Iowa has had one Heisman winner and several runners-up, making Johnson’s potential Heisman candidacy significant. As Iowa’s offense flourishes, Johnson’s growth continues to attract attention from analysts and coaches alike. Iowa still has three games remaining for Johnson to enhance his Heisman prospects, providing him opportunities to further solidify his candidacy.
